Desk Report :As the low pressure formed in the Bay of Bengal has turned into a depression, it is raining intermittently in various places in Barisal division.
And this will reduce the day and night temperatures by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius, said Md. Masud Rana Rubel, Senior Observer of the Barisal Meteorological Office.
He said, first, light rain fell from 9:20 pm to 9:40 pm on Friday (December 20). Then, it rained intermittently from 3 pm to 6 am on Saturday (December 21).
However, Masud Rana Rubel said that it is not raining everywhere in Barisal division, but it is raining intermittently in some places in Barisal division as the low pressure formed has turned into a depression. So far, 2.2 millimeters of rainfall have been recorded in the last 24 hours.
Stating that this rain, which has turned from a low pressure to a depression, may continue for another one to two days, he added that if the rain continues, the day and night temperatures will decrease by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius, and if the rain stops, fog will fall in the early hours. In that case, the visibility will be between 500 and 1,000 meters. And if it rains, there is no possibility of fog.
However, this level of rain will not cause much damage to the crops, said Md. Muradul Hasan, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension (Khamarbari), Barisal.
He said that 80 percent of the Aman paddy in the field has been harvested. And the intermittent rain will not affect the mustard season. However, such rain is quite beneficial for vegetables.
On the other hand, the increase in the level of cold due to intermittent rain has disrupted the lives of the city dwellers to some extent. Even though it has been half an hour, the sun has not been seen, so it seems that winter has set in in Barisal.
Rickshaw puller Al Amin said, “If the rain does not stop, I will take a rickshaw in the evening. But since it started raining at 9 o’clock, I have stopped driving in the gale, I am earning only 100 taha. With this, what will I give to the moneylender and what will I eat myself?” If you get caught in this rain again, fever is confirmed, who will give you medicine?’
Meanwhile, due to the rain, ordinary people are not going out much unless necessary. Passengers are crossing the congested roads easily during normal times today. However, transport drivers are suffering a bit due to the slippery road. In the meantime, a passenger bus of Sakura Paribahan lost control at Ichladi in Uzirpur on the Barisal-Dhaka highway and hit a tree. Although the front part of the bus was severely damaged, no casualties were reported. Earlier in the morning, two buses collided head-on on the highway. However, due to slow speed, no casualties were reported there either.
